“Living and Investing in the D”

This week’s issue of Crain’s Detroit Business features Detroit neighborhoods, businesses and recent developments to showcase what a great place Detroit can be to live. An essential component to the reinvestment of the city is taking place among community development corporations, whom are reported to be investing nearly $271 million in new developments and residential units.

A common theme throughout this week’s issue is the vital role that neighborhood associations play in maintain strong, vibrant communities. Featured in the issue is Cass Corridor’s Midtown Alliance, formed in 1989, which helped clean up the neighborhood and reduce drug-related crime. Like other neighborhood associations in Detroit, Midtown Alliance is an important example of how area residents and local businesses can come together to support each other and provide services that promote a self-sufficient community.

Recycle Midtown: Every 2nd Saturday of the Month

From Sarah Kubik, Recycle Midtown

August is here which means that Second Saturday is coming up right behind it. This time will be a little different – we will be changing locations! The new location is exactly one block north from the 4444 Second location. Wayne State University has now allowed us to use the parking lot at Forest and Second. The parking lot is labeled the #60 parking lot. The time will stay the same, just a bigger space!! We will be adding another feature to the collection, instead of having three different receptacles and a glass truck; we will be reducing our transportation to a 53-foot rig! You won’t miss Recyclean’s big orange semi ! ! ! !
