Hello. My name is Rovella Phillips from the Detroit Department of Transportation, and I would like to present DDOT’s exciting proposed Woodward Avenue Light Rail Transit project (aligned from Jefferson Avenue to the State Fairgrounds). Since we have received regional approval from the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG), we are eagerly moving forward to present the project to businesses, organizations and community groups.
DDOT and the Technical Committee Stakeholders are moving in stages to complete the project. Thus far, we’ve successfully finished the Alternatives Analysis phase and are currently developing the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. In the Fall, we will be submitting a grant application to the Federal government to assist with 50 to 60 percent in funding the project, which is in the range of $371 million. Between 2009-2010, Preliminary Engineering and the Final Design are planned. And, as soon as 2011, we expect construction, and by 2013, full operational service.
We have prepared a 20-minute presentation (with the rail simulation) and would be very please to show your agency the great benefits in bringing light rail to the region, which will create jobs, grow businesses and strengthen communities.
